Attitudes, Behavior and Compassion - ABC of Comprehensive abortion care

This virtual interactive workshop is aimed at fostering communication on evidence, internationally agreed upon rights, and values in the area of comprehensive abortion care. It is a facilitated workshop developed by the Prevention of Unsafe Abortion (PUA) unit at UNDP/UNFPA/UNICEF/WHO/World Bank Special Programme of Research, Development and Research Training in Human Reproduction (HRP) at WHO. It builds on the WHO Abortion care guideline and the Family planning and comprehensive abortion care toolkit for the primary health care workforce.

The main objectives of the workshop are:

  1. To engage with participants on the relevance of meeting internationally agreed-upon, established sexual and reproductive rights, grounded in principles of non-discrimination.
  2. To exchange with participants local and global information on sexual and reproductive health and rights, including relationships between the legal status of abortion and abortion incidence and safety.
  3. To encourage participants exploration of their own and societal beliefs and values related to gender, sexuality, reproduction, contraception, abortion and associated rights.
  4. To equip participants with relevant information from WHO SRHR Guidance.

The workshop is intended for healthcare workers, program managers, and policymakers. Each activity in the workshop is meant to facilitate dialogue on attitudes, behaviors and compassion based on global evidence and rights and support exploration of personal values. In addition, the activities will be linked with key recommendations from WHO guidance documents with a focus on comprehensive abortion care.
